Chennai rout Delhi by 18 runs

Johannesburg: Shadab Jakati's four wicket haul helped his side to beat Delhi Daredevils by 18-runs in their Indian Premier League clash in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Jakat, 28-year-old left-arm spinner, allowed just 24 runs and took four crucial wickets to restrict Delhi Daredevils to 145/8 in reply to Chennai's 163.

Jakati grabbed the key wickets David Warner (51), Dinesh Karthik (52), Tillakaratne Dilshan (13) and Pradeep Sangwan for a duck.

The victory was a sweet revenge for Chennai after they were defeated by Delhi Daredevils when both teams clashed for the first time in Durban.

Earlier, after losing the toss and being asked to bat, Subramaniam Badrinath top-scored with 45, Suresh Raina added 32 and Matthew Hayden had 30 to give Chennai a competitive score of 163.

Delhi made a poor start to their chase with Sudeep Tyagi striking a double blow in the fourth over, removing Gautam Gambhir (13) and De Villiers for a duck off successive deliveries.

A fourth-wicket stand of 74 runs between debutante Warner and Karthik revived Delhi and made it look like they were about to overturn the advantage.

But Jakati got the big breakthrough in the 16th over when Warner was stumped by Mahendra Singh Dhoni looking to smash past midwicket.

Muralitharan and allrounder Albie Morkel also grabbed two wickets each as Chennai secured only their third win in seven games.
