Mallya's boys thrash Mumbai Indians

Johannesburg: Jacques Kallis and Robin Uthappa hit unbeaten half centuries to lead Bangalore Royal Challengers to a nine -wicket victory over Mumbai Indian at Johannesburg on Sunday.

Jacques Kallis who was under fire from different corners due to slow batting in the IPL proved his critics wrong with a blistering half-century off 39 balls. He went on to score 69 which was studded with five fours and two sixes.

Uthappa who shared 126 runs for the second wicket with Kallis and scored an unbeaten 66 that came off 36 deliveries.

Kallis and Uthappa reached the target in the 19nth over with 11 balls to spare.

Earlier, Dillon du Preez claimed three wickets on his IPL debut to restrict the Mumbai Indians, who had half-centuries from Sanath Jayasuriya (52) and Dwayne Bravo (50 not out) to thank for helping them post a competitive total.

Coming on at first change, Bangalore seamer Du Preez removed Sachin Tendulkar and Ajinkya Rahane with successive deliveries in his first over.

And in his next, he had JP Duminy caught behind to leave Mumbai reeling at 23-3 before Sanath Jayasuriya and Dwayne Bravo compiled 60 runs for the fourth wicket to stage a recovery.

Jayasuriya smashed 52 runs from 43 balls with six fours and one six. The Sri Lankan veteran was removed by spinner Roelof van der Merwe in the 15th over, but Abhishek Nayar joined Bravo in an unbroken 66-run stand for the fifth wicket to keep Mumbai in control.

Jacques Kallis was declared man of the match.
