Royals thrash Kings by 78 runs

Durban : A devastating showing from Naman Ohja and Graeme Smith took the Rajasthan Royals to an emphatic 78- run victory the Punjab Kings XI on Monday at Durban.

The opening duo put on 135 from 89 balls as the Royals amassed 211/4 batting first at Durban.

Smith's 77-run knock came off 44 balls and was studded with a six and 12 fours. Naman Ojha hit 5 fours and 5 sixes in his 51-ball 68.

But soon after Smith's fall, wickets started tumbling and the reachable 200 started looking distant at that point in time. Jadeja kept the hopes alive and his cameo has enabled his side post the highest total of this season. Jadeja took 33 runs off 12 balls which consisted of five fours and a sixer.

Chasing a massive victory target of 212 runs, Punjab Kings could only manage 133/8 in 20 overs. Amit Singh took 3 wickets for 9 runs, while Shane Warne took 2 wickets in Punjab's reply, despite the effort of Yuvraj Singh 48 (37).

Punjab's chase faltered when they lost Sunny Sohal and Karan Goel in the first over. Siddharth Trivedi struck next when Simon Katich (10) edged a full toss onto his stumps in the fifth over. Punjab never recovered from there and could manage only 133/8 in twenty overs.

The massive victory took Rajasthan Royals to second position in the points table behind Chennai Superkings.

Graeme Smith was declared the Man of the Match .
