Rohit hat-trick sinks Mumbai

Centurion: Rohit Sharma's astounding performance with bat and bowl steered Deccan Chargers to a 19 run victory over Mumbai Indians at Centurion on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma led with 38 in Deccan Chargers 145/6, then took four wickets including a hat trick to restrict Mumbai to 126/8.

The win was Deccan's fifth of the 2009 Indian Premier League and they have climbed up to the second position in the points table. Mumbai remained second to last, with only three wins from eight matches.

Chasing a modest target of 146, Mumbai Indians were off to a shaky start as they lost Tendulkar and Jayasuriya in consecutive balls in second over.

JP Duminy (52) tried to rescue Mumbai Innings and shared a 53 -run partnership for the third wicket with Shah who scored 29 off 19 balls. Their partnership came to end when Shah hit a Suman a full toss straght to Dwayne Smith. Mumbai was in trouble when Suman dismissed Bravo for 13.

Mumbai was in trouble at 97-4 when Bravo was dismissed. Then came the turning point of the match- the hat trick.

First, Abhishek Nayar who was bowled for a duck. Harbhajan Singh came in and was bowled first ball looking for a big shot with the last ball of the 16th over. Returning in the 18th over, Sharma cleaned up Duminy, who padded the ball onto the stumps to leave Deccan on 108-7.

Earlier, opting to bat, Rohit Sharma's 38 and Venugopal's 28 to helped Deccan Chargers to score145 for six.

Rohit Sharma was declared man of the match.
