Kimberly: Chennai Super Kings are back on the IPL points table as they beat Kings XI Punjab by seven wickets at De Beers Diamond Oval on Saturday.
Super Kings were guided to victory by Subramaniam Badrinath, who hit 59 not out and opener Matthew Hayden, who added 48.
Badrinath smashed nine boundaries and a six at the De Beers Diamond Oval, sharing a match-winning 89-run stand for the third wicket with Hayden (48 off 44 balls).
Despite the early losses of Murali Vijay for 10 and Suresh Raina for 16, Chennai reached their victory target with relative ease.
Earlier electing to bat first, Rajasthan Royals reached 140-7 against the Chennai Super Kings in their twenty overs.
Graeme Smith top-scored with 30, hitting only two boundaries in 33 balls. Chennai's spinners were largely responsible for restricting Rajasthan, veteran offspinner Muttiah Muralitharan taking 2-22 and left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati 2-35.
Ravindra Jadeja smashed 27 from 19 balls before perishing and Shane Warne smeared an unbeaten 21 from 11 to ensure their side posted a respectable total.
