Kimberley: Deccan Chargers' veteran Lankan pacer Chaminda Vaas feels he has proved that he was fit to play in the fast paced T20 game.
Vaas played a crucial role in the Chargers' victory over defending champions Rajasthan Royals yesterday with a quickfire 20 with the bat and two crucial wickets up front.
The left-arm pacer first trapped Graeme Smith lbw on his first delivery and then removed Lee Carseldine as Deccan Chargers inflicted a 53-run win over the Shane Warne-led side.
"I was playing after two months. I used my experience and resorted to bowling slower balls as the pitch was favouring that. I stuck to my basics and it helped. I have showed that I can play in a T20 as well!" Vaas said.
"We needed a victory and I am happy we won. We will try to win the coming matches as well." he said.
Captain Adam Gilchrist also praised Vaas, saying, "We just felt that Chaminda Vaas must get a go because of the sub-continental conditions. He sticks to stump to stump line and bowls with such control.
"He was outstanding. He was playing competitive cricket after a long time but he showed no sign of that and was well on target"
