ICC rejects Pakistan legal claims

Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected the Pakistan Cricket Board"s (PCB) legal notice challenging its decision to shift 2011 World Cup matches from the country.

A statement issued by the ICC said the PCB had failed to propose the Alternative Venues Plans (AVP) in case of terrorist threats during World Cup meeting in Dubai last month so it decided to move the games out of the country.

The ICC said it has not removed the Pakistan as a joint host of the mega event, but had 'simply decided to stage matches at different venues".

“We are naturally disappointed the PCB has chosen to pursue its grievance with the ICC through legal channels but, having received correspondence from its lawyers, we have now responded," The News quoted ICC"s Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat, as saying.

Lorgat hoped the PCB would pursue the matter in more professional manner.

“We hope the PCB will reflect on this matter, withdraw its spurious claims and, as a responsible full member, engage with us in an appropriate manner," he said.
