Indian eves storm into T20 semis

Taunton: Indian eves has achieved what their men failed to do it in the T20 World Cup. Indian eves beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets to reach the semi-finals of ICC's T20 World Cup 2009.

Chasing Sri Lanka's modest total of 94, Mithali Raj played a crucial knock of 32 to steer India to a comfortable victory. India overhauled the target by losing 5 wickets with 7 balls to spare.

Earlier, fast bowler Rumeli Dhar scalped two wickets at the top, while left-arm spinner Gouhar Sultana returned with a couple more as India restricted a hapless Sri Lanka to a paltry 94 for six in their rain-marred match.

Electing to bat first after rain truncated the match to 18-over-a-side affair, Sri Lanka could not recover from the early burst by Rumeli and lost half of their side in 13 overs before Deepika Rasangika provided some respectibility to their total with a 20-ball 24 runs cameo.

Rumeli ripped through the Lankan top order and picked up two crucial wickets -- Inoka Galagedara (6) and Hiruka Fernando (2) -- giving away just four runs.

However, it was fellow pacer Amita Sharma who began the rot removing skipper Chamari Polgampola (2) in the third over.

Chamari Atapaththu (16) and Dilani Manodara (17) tired to steady the ship, putting up 21 runs as Sri Lanka crawled to 34 in the halfway mark but Sultana soon got rid off Chamari in the next over.

Sultana struck again in her next over removing Eshani Kaushalya (7) to reduced them to 55 for five in 13 overs.

Monodara also didnt last long and perished in the 16th over and if it hadnt been for Rasangikas late burst things might have been more embarrassing for the Lankans.
