Mumbai: Australia skipper Ricky Ponting became the second fastest in history and fourth batsman to reach the milestone of 11,000 Test runs during the first Ashes Test at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Thursday.
The 34-year old reached the figure when he reached 40 with his all too familiar swivelled pull for two off Stuart Broad. At tea, Ashes holders Australia were 142 for one in reply to England's 435, with left-handed opener Katich 53 not out and captain Ponting 44 not out at Sophia Gardens.
And the other Batsmen who scored more than 11,000 run mark:
Sachin Tendulkar - 12,773
Brian Lara - 11,953
Allan Border - 11,174
Ponting reached the milestone in his 222nd Test innings, while West Indies great Lara did so in 213 innings. Tendulkar and Border took 223 and 259 innings respectively.
