Media pour out their love on Flintoff

London: Following the historic Ashes test match victory at Lord"s, the English media praised England all-rounder

At last 'Lords' smiles on England

Flintoff"s spell on the fifth and final day of the Test match was admired by other journalists.

“His thundering spell of mesmeric hostility first snuffed out the candle flame of Australian hope and then plunged them into the darkness of defeat. He bowled for an hour-and-a-half in excess of 90mph, and every ball was a drama. Not bad for a lame lad," Barnes added.

Simon Hughes, a journalist with the Daily Telegraph, further rubbed salt to Australia"s insult by bringing up the weather issue, which had helped England in Cardiff on the fourth afternoon, as they went on to manage a vital draw.

“The weather failed to come to Australia's aid and with Flintoff ready to unleash a tempest, it was only a matter of time before they succumbed," Hughes wrote in Daily Telegraph.

Hughes also brought up the significant aspect of the slope at Lord"s, which numerous bowlers had difficulty to cope with and Flintoff was able to outshine.

“Better grooved after the first Test, his spell on Monday morning was as fearsome, direct and irresistible as there''s ever been at Lord's. His exploitation of the vagaries of the slope has rarely been surpassed," he added.
