Arjuna award for Gambhir

New Delhi: India's prolific batsman Gautam Gambhir has been awarded the prestegious Arjuna Award for the year 2009.

Gambhir is the only Indian cricketer to win prestigious Arjuna Award by the Sports Ministry of India.

Indian opener recently become only the sixth Indian to occupy the top slot of the ICC Test chart, before Kumar Sangakkara overtook him.

Gambhir has proved himself in all three forms of cricket and he was one of the heroes of India's World T20 World Cup win in 2007. He has been chosen for the award along with badminton player Saina Nehwal, shooter Ronjan Sodhi and hockey player Ignace Tirkey.

Bhajji, Dhoni booked for disesteeming Padma Awards

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the recipient of the Khel Ratna last year.
