Edgbaston: Australia has surprisingly dropped Phillip Hughes from their starting XI for the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston.
Hughes makes way for Shane Watson after the former failed to amass any big total and struggled against short-pitched bowling.
Hughes could only manage paltry 36, 4 and 17 at Cardiff and Lord's against hosts England, and then 10 and 68 in the recent tour match against Northamptonshire.
Watson, who has experienced moderate success batting higher in the order for Queensland, has fared better opening the batting for the Australian one-day side. He has posted ODI centuries at the top of the order for Australia in the past year, having worked with Greg Chappell, the Australian centre of excellence coach, to tighten his technique.
