Mumbai: We knew that non-cricket sports in India are crying for money in India but this is the first time an official body has requested for money from the BCCI.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has requested for an assistance for its “Goal 2011" project and the cricket board is likely to give 10 crore rupees.
AIFF had thought of a two year project under which 25 soccer players will be kept exclusively for national duty till the end of the Asian Cup campaign.
Even though BCCI has not given any assurance in this regard it will be discussed at at the BCCI's next working committee meeting. The BCCI officials, however, refused to comment on the matter.
The BCCI, the richest sports body in the country, which earned around 222 million dollars in fiscal 2007-2008, has already set aside a consolidated fund of 11 million dollars for the promotion of other sports.
