New Delhi: Zaheer Khan's absence is a huge blow to Indian team, says Indian coach Gary Kirsten.
Zaheer Khan will not be playing for next five months as he is resting after a shoulder operation which he recently underwent at South Africa.
Indian coach is banking on Ishant Sharma, RP Singh and Praveen Kumar to make up for Zaheer's absence from team.
" Its not easy to replace a player of Zaheer's calibre, his absence is indeed a huge blow but we have several fast bowlers in the team who can also do the job" said Kirsten told an English paper.
India's chief selection committee chairman Krish Srikkanth also supported Kirsten's view and said that India will surely miss Zaheer in the upcoming tournaments.
However, both Kirsten and Srikkanth claimed that India has enough bench-strength to tackle this crisis
"Pacers like RP, Ishant, Nehra and Praveen are capable bowlers and can face any challenge. Team is going to have a four-day camp from August 27 and we hope to sort out everything before the season starts in September," Kirsten said.
