BCCI lends AIFF a helping hand

New Delhi: BCCI working committee today approved grant of Rs 25 crore for the All Indian Football Federation, to help them in the preparation for 2011 Asian cup.

The decision in this regard was taken at its working committee meeting in Mumbai on Thursday.

Earlier All India Football Federation (AIFF) had requested BCCI for an assistance for its “Goal 2011" project.

However, AIFF president Praful Patel refused to confirm or deny that he had approached BCCI for financial assistance for the the national football team's preparations for the 2011 Asian Cup.

Indian soccer team qualified for the January 2011 Asian Cup in Doha after winning the AFC Challenge Cup last year. Recently, the sports ministry had sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the Indian football team's Asian Games preparations.

The BCCI, the richest sports body in the country, which earned around 222 million dollars in fiscal 2007-2008, has already set aside a consolidated fund of 11 million dollars for the promotion of other sports.
