Chennai: Rahul Dravid is likely to return to the one-day side when the squad is picked for the next month"s tri-series in Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy in South Africa. Karnataka batsman hasn't played an ODI since October 2007.
National selection committee may recall Dravid to strengthen Indian middle order whose weakness against short-pitched deliveries was exposed in the World Twenty20 in England and the one-day series in the West Indies.
Meanwhile, opener Vireder Sehwag's chances of returning to squad is bleak as he has not fully recovered from the shoulder injury.
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had said that Sehwag, would be fit before the Champion Trophy. But it is to be seen whether the national selection committee headed by Krishnamachari Srikkanth goes by the captain"s words. Viru's chances will depend on his medical reports when the national selectors meet here on Sunday.
In Sehwag's likely absence, Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir will open the batting with Rahul Dravid coming in at No. 3.
