Bangalore: After months of hype, auctions and deals, KPL (Karnataka Player League) is poised to emerge from the chrysalis.
The tournament, modelled along the Indian Premier League, sponsored by Mantri Group, will have 31 matches starting from September 9 with the final on September 23. Each team will play against each other in the league round where they fight for a berth in the two semi-finals (Sept 22) and final (Sept 23).
The eight teams taking part in the tournament are Bijapur Bulls, Bangalore Brogadiers, Mangalore United, Mysore Maharajas, Provident Bangalore, Malnad Gladiators, Shamanur Davangere Diamonds and Belagavi Panthers.
The inaugural match of the event is between Provident Bangalore (Rural) and The Mangalore United teams. This match will be followed by the inauguration ceremony. The second match between Bangalore Brigadiers (Urban) and Belagavi Panthers will start at 7.45 pm.
“Each team will get to play a minimum of two matches under lights and there will be three matches on weekends, with the first starting at 10.30 am. This surely will keep cricket fans entertained for the entire weekend,"" said Brijesh Patel, KSCA secretary.
“Considering the number of people at the Ranji Trophy matches in Mysore, we are expecting a sellout crowd in Mysore on all three days,"" said Srikanta Narashimaraja Wadiyar, the KSCA president.
