New Delhi: In a major blow to India's title hopes , opener Gautam Gambhir was ruled out of the Sri Lanka Tri series due to muscle injury.
Gambhir, who is now in Sri Lanka with his teammates, will return to India on Friday. India have already missed the services of explosive opener Virender Sehwag and speedstar Zaheer Khan due to injuries.
Tamil Nadu opener M Vijay is likely to replace Gambhir in the compaq Cup.
India will play two back-to-back ODIs against New Zealand on Friday and against Sri Lanka on Saturday. The final is scheduled to played on September 14.
Gambhir's injury means India will be without two of their three established openers in Sri Lanka: Virender Sehwag is already out with shoulder injury and will miss the Champions Trophy too. Dinesh Karthik, who opened in the ODIs in the West Indies , is in the squad and likely to make the playing XI.
