Bangalore: The lucrative Karnataka Premier League (KPL) Twenty20 tournament began here on Wednesday evening with a glitzy opening ceremony at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Cine stars Sudeep Tejaswini and Suman Ranganathan were present in Bangalore Chinnaswamy Stadium to see the cricket fiesta kick off.
The euphoria among the cricket fans in Bangalore is not missing despite the ongoing Sri Lankan tri series in Colombo.
The tournament was officially flagged off by Karnataka sports minister Goolihatti Shekar along with Transport minister R Ashok and IT minister Kata Subramanya Naidu.
The opening ceremony was followed by lots of fancy fireworks. The ceremony also included heart warming performances by dancers.
The tournament, modelled along the Indian Premier League, sponsored by Mantri Group, will have 31 matches starting from September 9 with the final on September 23. Each team will play against each other in the league round where they fight for a berth in the two semi-finals (Sept 22) and final (Sept 23).
The opening match of the tournament was between Mangalore United and Provident Bangalore (Rural). Bangalore Provident ( rural) won the match by 36 runs.
