India crush New Zealand by 6 wkts

Colombo: India annihilated New Zealand by 6 wickets at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to book their place in the final of the Compaq Cup.

India came out on top, as they managed to beat New Zealand by 6 wickets. Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first, eventually being bowled out for 155 runs in 46.3 overs.

This win keeps alive India's hopes of becoming the number one ODI side in the world by clean sweeping the tri-nation tournament and renders their tomorrow's match against Sri Lanka inconsequential.

For India, the target was not intimidating but the conditions did not ideal for the stroke-makers and runs were not easy to come by. Depleted by the absence of regular openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, India sent Dinesh Karthik to open the innings with Tendulkar but the ploy did not click.

Indian bowlers Ashish Nehra (3-24) and Yuvraj Singh (3-31) caused the most damage to the New Zealand batting lineup, while NZ captain Daniel Vettori was top scorer with 25 runs.

Scorecard: India Vs New Zealand

In India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was top scorer with 46 runs.
