Centurion: Herschelle Gibbs will miss South Africa's opening match against Sri Lanka at Centuion as he is suffering from a minor rib injury. However, he is expected to be fit for the remaining matches in the tournament.
"Herschelle suffered a minor rib and intercostal injury in the warm-up match against the West Indies at Potchefstroom on Friday. We will start rehab tomorrow and rest the injury for the next few days," said team physiotherapist Brandon Jackson. Champions Trophy-Fixture
"We will re-assess his position after Tuesday's match with the aim of getting him back on the field either for the New Zealand match on Thursday or the one against England next Sunday," he added.
Gibbs had the injury when he took evasive action to avoid a straight drive by Graeme Smith, towards the start of the Windies match. He batted for sometime before heading off the ground after suffering from some discomfort while attempting to run a quick couple.
