England beat South Africa by 22 runs

Centurion: England stormed into the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy by beating South Africa by 22 runs at Centurion on Sunday.


England successfully defended a total of 324-8 -their sixth biggest in ODI's - in a high-scoring Group B clash.

A superb knock of 98 by Owasis Shah was the backbone for England's score, while Eoin Morgan crashed 67 off 34 balls in the closing stages. Owais Shah struck six sixes in his superb knock.

Chasing a target of 323, South Africa made 301 for nine in 50 overs and crashed out of the tournament.

South African captain Graeme Smith scored 141 as the home team finished 22 runs short of target. England bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad each took three wickets.

By failing to reach 313, South Africa dropped its net run rate below Sri Lanka"s, meaning the team ranked No. 1 by the International Cricket Council"s can"t advance out of the four- team group.
