What India need to do to get through

With just two matches left in the group stages of the Champions Trophy , India still has a chance to qualify for the semi-final spot. thatscricket examines the various scenarios for India to reach semi finals.

For India to reach semis they have to defeat West Indies by a huge margin on Wednesday and Pakistan will have to beat Australia.

Case1: Australia lose and India win chasing 250

If Australia post a score of 200, India should reach 251 in 40.2 overs or less.

If the Aussies post a score of 225, India should reach 251 in 36.2 overs or less.

If the Australia post a score of 249, India should reach 251 in 33.0 overs or less.


Case 2: If Australia bat first and score 250 and lose, India win chasing 250

If Pakistan win in 40 overs, India should reach 251 in 41.0 overs or less.

If Pakistan win in 45 overs, India should reach 251 in 36.3 overs or less.

If Pakistan win in 49.5 overs, India should reach 251 in 33.0 overs or less.

Case 3: If Australia lose chasing 250 and India win defending 250

If Australia are restricted to 200, India should restrict WI to 195 or less.

If Aussies are restricted to 225, India should restrict WI to 170 or less.

If Australia score 249, India should restrict WI to 146 or less.

Case 4: Australia score 250 batting first and India win defending 250

If Pak win in 40 overs, India must restrict WI to 199 or less

If Pak win in 45 overs, India must restrict WI to 172 or less

If Pak win in 49.5 overs, India must restrict WI to 147 or less

A no result game will see India out of the Champions Trophy.
