Centurion: After completing 12,000 runs in one-day cricket, Australian captain Ricky Ponting said that he is now chasing the benchmarks set by Indian cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar.
"Sachin has set benchmarks for guys like me to chase him and get as close as we can. If I had to last 20 years, I would probably be batting in a wheelchair," he quipped.
Ponting became the third batsman in ODI history after Tendulkar (16,903) and Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya (13,377) to complete 12,000 runs.
Veteran cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will complete 20 years in international cricket next month, having made his Test debut against Pakistan in November 1989.
The batting maestro holds several records including most runs in Tests (12,773) and one-day internationals. Sachin also has the highest number of centuries to his credit -- 42 in Tests and 44 in ODIs.
Australin captain Ponting made his international debut in debut in the year1995, has so far scored 11,345 runs in Tests with 38 centuries and 12,043 runs in ODIs with 28 hundreds.
