Delhi beat Wayamba by 50 runs

New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils were on the verge of a Champions League elimination, but their captain Sehwag found form at the right time and powered his side to a 50 run over Sri Lanka's Wayamba XI at the Kotla on Sunday.

Batting first, Sehwag (66) and Karthik (61) blazed half-centuries to help Devils to post a respectable total of 170/5 in 20 overs.

Karthik slammed Ajantha Mendis for three consecutive sixes en route to a destructive 61 from 41 deliveries. Karthik found good support in Owais Shah, who made 18 from 10 balls.

Later Delhi bowlers lead by veteran Glenn McGrath(2/20) and Nannes (4/24) demolished Wayamba batting line-up to restrict them to 120/7.

Former Sri Lankan captain Jayawardene fought a lone battle and had made 53 when Nannes returned to claim his scalp, on the way to figures of four for 24.

Mahela Jayawardene was the lone bright spot in Wayamba batting chart, scoring 53 off 40 balls, while Sameera de Zoysa (21) was the other notable run-getter for them.

With this victory, the Delhi finished their group proceedings with a net run rate of +0.700 and winner of the Tuesday match between Victoria Bushrangers and Wayamba would now join Delhi in the next stage from Group D.
