Sachin casts vote in Maharashtra polls

Mumbai: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday exercised his franchise as soon as polling for the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2009 begun.

Tendulkar cast his vote in Mumbai's northwestern suburb of Bandra

Sachin Tendulkar"s schoolmate and India"s only back-to-back Test double centurion — Vinod Kambli is contesting from Vikroli on a ticket from the new Lok Bharti party. Kambli will battle Shiv Sena"s former mayor Datta Dalvi and NCP"s Pallavi Patil at Vikroli.

Kambli, who made a record nine comebacks to national cricket before calling it a day, has a thin chance of winning this seat.

Polling for 288 Assembly seats in Maharstra elections began on Tuesday moring.
