Whatmore to be KKR coach

Kolkata: Ending all the speculations, Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Dav Whatmore as the head coach for the team in the next season of the T20 tournament.

Whatmore, former National Cricket Academy coach resigned from the post and signed a contract with the Kolkata side.

The Australian has earlier coached teams like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Whatmore added a feather to his cap after guiding Sri Lanka to World Cup victory in 1996. He had also coached Indian junior cricket team.

Kolkata Knight Riders axed former coach Buchanan after their pathetic performance in the IPL's second season.

KKR had earlier interviewed John Wright, Richard Pybus, Dermot Reeve, Duncan Fletcher, Lalchand Rajput, WV Raman and Ashok Malhotra for the post of head coach. But they have decided to appoint Whatmore as the head coach, ijay Dahiya as assistant coach and Wasim Akram as the bowling 'consultant".
