Chargers required eight runs off the last over but they had no recognized batsman at the crease and the tail-enders could fetch only four runs
Trinidad's victory helped Somerset into the quarter-final league from group A.
Earlier opting to field, Chargers did well to restrict Trinidad and Tobago to 149/7.
William Perkins 38 (32 ball, 6X4) and Kieron Polard 31 (14 ) were the notable run getters for Trinidad.
Chasing the modest target, Skipper Adam Glichrist (51), Y Venugopal Rao (30) and Rohit Sharma (25) batted well for Chargers but that proved insufficient to pull through their side.
The turning point of the match was when Gilchrist (6x4, 2x6) pulled Lendl Simmons straight down Keiron Pollard's throat on the deep mid-wicket boundary and Rohit followed.
Dwayne Bravo (3/24) was the most successful bowler for Trinidad & Tobago, who entered the next stage with clean slate.
