Kanpur: Tamil Nadu 'keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been brought in as cover for the for injured India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni ahead of the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka starting here on Tuesday.
Indian skipper Dhoni reportedly hurt his finger during the first Test at Ahmedabad which ended on Friday.
The exact nature of the injury or the time and place when it was caused is still not clear.
If Dhoni is unfit, it would be a big setback for team India, since he had batted well in the previous Test to notch his second Test hundred and had pulled India out of the woods with a 224 run partnership with Rahul Dravid.
Tamil Nadu skipper Karthik was scheduled to play in their Ranji Trophy Super League match against Himachal Pradesh in Dharmasala on Tuesday. The right-handed batsman last represented India in a Test against New Zealand in Napier in March this year.
