Mumbai: Sri Lanka called up Thilina Kandamby to its Test squad and the uncapped Chinthaka Jayasinghe and Muthumudalige Pushpakumara to its Twenty20 squad on Tuesday for the tour of India next month.
Sri Lanka were comprehensively beaten by India in the second Test in Kanpur on Friday. But the island nation will be looking to level the series with a victory in the third Test, which commences, at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai, on Wednesday.
The two teams will enjoy the graceful setting of one of the country's oldest cricket venues as India look for a 2-0 scoreline to dislodge South Africa at the top of the official Test rankings.
The Lankans have never won a Test on Indian soil and can create history by winning the final match of the three-Test series.
Kandamby, a left-handed batsman, has recently performed well in limited-overs matches, while Pushpakumara and Jayasinghe are experienced domestic cricketers.
Pushpakumara has scored 241 runs in 18 domestic twenty20 matches at a strike rate of 106. Pushpakumara's offspin bowling has captured 26 wickets. He returns to the national squad after having failed to play a single game on a 2000 tour to South Africa.
Jayasinghe, a 31-year-old batsman, has a strike rate of 135 in a 22-match domestic twenty20 career.
Tamil Nadu opener Murali Vijay, who played one Test against Australia last year, is expected to replace Gambhir.
The tour starts with a three-day practice against an Indian all-star XI on Nov. 11, followed by three Tests, five ODIs and two twenty20 games.
