'Sanga' stands between India and win

Mumbai: Captain Sangakakra scored a fighting century to keep Sri Lanka afloat on day four of the third and final Test against India at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai, on Saturday.

The visitors, trailing by 333 on the first innings, survived a middle-order collapse in the post-lunch session to move to 274-6 in their second knock by stumps on the fourth day.

Sri Lankan captain made a brilliant counter attack on Indian bowlers and remained unbeaten on 133 runs, surviving 258 balls in his marathon effort. This is Sangakkara's first century on Indian soil. Sri Lankan captain got good support from Nuwan Kulasekara as the duo added 66 in 17.3 overs, with the latter contributing just nine from 45 deliveries, with two boundaries

Sri Lanka lost four wickets for 25 runs in the post-lunch session to slip to 144-5, before Sangakkara led a revival to take the match into the fifth day.

For India, Zaheer Khan was the most successful bowler as he took two crucial wickets of Mahela Jayawardene (12) and Samaraweera (0).

Pragyan Ojha took two for 84, while Sreesanth and Harbhajan Singh got a wicket apiece.

It was Harbhajan Singh though who got the breakthrough in the morning session when he trapped Dilshan leg before wicket for 16 from 27 deliveries.

Sreesanth produced a brilliant late swinging delivery to get rid of Parnavitana triggering a mini collapse.

Mahela Jayawardene (12), Thilan Samarawera and Angelo Matthews (5) departed within a space of 25 runs denting Sri Lanka's chances of avoiding an innings defeat.

India lead the series 1-0 and a win here will propel them to the top spot in Test rankings.
