Yuvraj axed as Kings XI captain

Chandigarh: Yuvraj Singh has been sacked as Kings XI Punjab skipper on the recommendation of the team coach Tom Moody.

A statement from the Kings XI management said it had been decided to strip Yuvraj Singh of the captaincy with immediate effect.

The team management was not happy with the Yuvraj's attitude to the team owners, saying Yuvraj continually ignored the team management's advice.

Sri Lankan captain Kumara Sangakkara is likely to replace Yuvraj as the new skipper of KIngs XI.

The team under Yurvaj were semifinalists of the IPL's first season in 2008, but had an ordinary run in 2009 when they had a win-loss record of 7-7.

However, Sangakkara, played down the development. "I am busy with Sri Lanka job. I cannot take another one and I feel an Indian should lead an Indian franchise,"

When contacted, Yuvraj declined to comment on the matter.

Kings XI Punjab is partly owned by Preity Zinta and industrialist Ness Wadia.
