Mohali: Kerala pacer Sreesanth has tested positive for swine flu on Friday, as a result he has been ruled out of the T20 match against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
Sree was admitted to the Fortis Hospital in the wee hours of Thursday night after he showed symptoms of the virus.
The confirmation of the test carried out on Thursday was announced by hospital authorities on Friday morning, sending a wave of panic among rest of the Indian squad as Sreesanth had interacted with almost all of the other team members when he had contracted the virus. Sreesanth is being treated with Tamiflu, the only known effective drug to combat H1N1.
Both the cricket teams travelled here yesterday by a chartered flight from Nagpur where they played their first Twenty20 match. Sreesanth, who missed that match ostensibly due to a stomach upset, was on the flight.
Rest of the Indian squad will also undergo tests for the virus. If other players do test positive for H1N1 the ODI series may well be called off.
