Mumbai: Dashing opener Virender Sehwag would captain Indian in the next two ODIs of the ongoing India-Sri Lanka ODI series in the absence of MS Dhoni, who was banned for two one-day internationals for the team's slow over-rate.
The third and fourth ODIs are scheduled to be played in Cuttack and Kolkata respectively.
BCCI, in a statement, on Saturday named Virender Sehwag as the stand-in skipper.
Sri Lanka squared the five-mach series 1-1 by winning the day-night game in Nagpur by three wickets with five balls remaining.
The second ODI in Nagpur ended 45 minutes after the scheduled finish time because of the frequent discussions between the Indian players. The match referee held skipper Dhoni responsible for the "intentional" delay.
