Dhaka: Tilakaratne Dilshan began the new year in style as he hammered a century to lead Sri Lanka to a a comfortable seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in the opening match of the triangular series in Dhaka.
Tilakaratne Dilshan smashed 104 off 122 balls as the visitors overhauled the target with 5.1 overs to spare. Dilshan's inning was studded with 12 boundaries. He also shared a 148 run second wicket stand with captain Kumar Sangakkara ( 74 off 73 balls).
Sri Lanka's openers began their reply with a flurry of boundaries, but Bangladesh secured early success when Rubel Hossain snared Upul Tharanga in the fourth over.
Earlier, Mohammad Ashraful hit 75 to lift Bangladesh to 260-7.
Ashraful hit six boundaries in his 94-ball knock to help Bangladesh recover from 74-4 following a mini collapse.
He shared a 95-run sixth wicket partnership with Mahmud Ullah (45) before being run out.
Tillakaratne Dishan was declared Man of the Match for his scintillating century
Sri Lanka next plays India on Tuesday in the second match of the tournament.
