Mirpur: Yuvraj Singh hit a strokeful 74 as India set Sri Lanka a tough victory target of 280 for Sri Lanka in the second match of the Idea cup at Mirpur on Tuesday.
For Sri Lanaka Welegedara shone with the ball, claiming his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs. Welegedara took five for 65 in ten overs.
Welegedara claimed with the wickets of Gautam Gambhir (8), Virat Kohli (9) and Virender Sehwag (47) to check India after their flying start.
Batting first, India got off to a shaky start as they lost two wickets for 26 runs. But Sehwag blossomed by finding the fence 9 times but he didn't last as long as India would have wanted him to. He was dismissed by Welegedara to put India in further trouble. Sehwag was caught by Thirimanne for 47.
However, Dhoni and Yuvraj stitched together a 99 run partnership in the middle of the innings to build a platform for India. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 37 from 70 deliveries.
Ravindra Jadeja's late cameo 39 (34) also helped India to reach 279 for nine at the end of fifty overs.
