Dhaka: Sri Lanka have called up Mahela Jayawardene to boost their injury-hit squad midway through the tri-series in Bangladesh.
In addition to Jayawardene, Sri Lanka have called up the 20-year old uncapped wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal and the opener Mahela Udawatte, 23, who has played nine ODIs.
The players have come in as replacements for Chamara Silva and M Pushpakumara who are scheduled to leave for home tonight. Dilshan, however, will stay back with the squad in the hope that his fitness improves in time for the final.
The 20-year-old Chandimal is a promising right-handed wicketkeeper batsman who was the vice-captain of the Sri Lankan team in the under-19 World Cup in Malaysia in 2008. In August last year, he scored a century for Sri Lanka Development XI in a first class match against the visiting New Zealand side.
Udawatte, an attacking batsman, has been seen as the potential long-term prospect for the Sri Lanka for some time now. He made his debut in 2008 and hit his highest score of 73 in his third ODI against West Indies.
