Nagpur: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar smashed an unbeaten half century as India reached 162-4 at lunch on the fourth day on Tuesday.
India were struggling to save the match despite a fighting 77 not out by Sachin Tendulkar on the fourth day of the first Test against South Africa.
India, the world's number one Test side, still needed 163 runs to avoid an embarrassing innings defeat after being bowled out for 233 in their first innings in reply to South Africa's 558-6 declared.

Resuming at 66-2 after being made to follow on, the hosts lost overnight batsman Vijay inside the first hour of play.
Earlier, Steyn, 26, picked up a career-best seven wickets for 51 runs to rout India's first innings for 233 on the third day of the first Test at the Vidarbha Cricket Association stadium in Nagpur.
The second and final Test begins in Kolkata on February 14.
