Viru, Sachin put India in driver's seat

Kolkata: India 342/5 at Day 2 stumps, leading Proteas by 46 runs. Sehwag top-scored with 165 and Tendulkar (106) gave him good company at the Eden Gardens here on Monday.

Three quick wickets in the form of Sachin (106 in 206 balls), Sehwag (165 in 174 balls) and Badrinath (1 in 8 balls) brought South Africa somewhat back in the game in the post tea session of second Test on Monday.

At stumps, India were on 342 for the loss of five wickets with VVS Laxman batting on 9 runs and Amit Mishra on 1. India are 46 runs ahead of South Africa with 5 wickets in hand.

India's Zaheer Khan finished with a four-wicket haul as South Africa were bowled out for 296 inside the first four overs in the morning session on the second day of the second Test.

Resuming at 266 for nine, overnight batsman Wayne Parnell (12) and Morne Morkel (11 not out) added 30 runs quickly in the first four overs of the day. For India, Zaheer Khan picked up four for 90 while Harbhajan Singh bagged three for 64.
