Australia survive late Vettori scare

Auckland: Vettori's Specatular 70 from 49 balls and a brillaint spell of 2/43 from his 10 overs goes in vain as Australia clinched the second ODI by 12 runs over D/L method.

Australia levelled the series 1-1 with the win in the second ODI.

Vettori slayed 70 off 49 balls as New Zealand chased a rain-reduced target of 266 off 45 overs, but was bowled around his legs by Ryan Harris as the hosts were dismissed for 253 with 10 balls remaining at Eden Park.

Earlier, Mike Hussey has top-scored for Australia for the second successive match, hitting a patient 56 in a total of 7-273 in the second one-day international against New Zealand.

Hussey's runs came from 63 deliveries, sharing a century stand with Cameron White.

Openers Brad Haddin (53) and Shane Watson (47) added 73 in 13.4 overs and White hit three sixes in his 54.

Vettori was adjudged as Man of the Match for his blistering knock.

The third ODI is in Hamilton on Tuesday, March 09.
