Mohali: Table Laggards(Punjab) thrash table toppers(Mumbai) in the 41st Match of IPL 3rd edition here on Friday in Mohali.
A scintillating 56 by skipper Kumara Sangakkara helped Kings XI Punjab beat table toppers Mumbai Indians by six wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians were restricted to 154 for nine in 20 overs after Irfan Pathan and Piyush Chawla picked up three wickets each at the floodlit Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium.
In-reply Kings XI Punjab made 158 in 19.2 overs with six wickets in hand. Sangakkara (56 off 42 balls), Adrian Barath (33 off 27 balls) and Mahela Jayawardene (31 off 18) all chipped in as basement side Punjab chased Mumbai's total of 154 successfully.
This was MI"s second loss on the trot and though they remain at the top of the points table.
The earlier KXIP vs MI match resulted in MI defeating KXIP by 4 wickets.
Kumara Sangakkara was adjudged Man-of-the-Match.
