Kiwis clinch last-ball thriller

Kensington Oval: New Zealand clinch the last ball thriller against Pakistan by 1 run in the Super Eight, Group E Match of ICC Twenty20 World Cup here on Saturday in Bridgetown.

The win kept New Zealand in contention for the semifinals while making Pakistan's road difficult after two defeats in as many matches.

Earlier, A brilliant bowling display from Pakistan helps to restrict New Zealand for just 133 on the board. Vettori (38 from 34 balls) and BB McCullum (33 from 29 balls) are the contributors of New Zealand's innings.

Mohammad Sami (2-25), Abdur Rehman (2-19) and Shahid Afridi (2-29) bowled well to restrict New Zealand to a modest total.

In-reply, Butt pulled back Pakistan from deep trouble with an unbeaten 67 after the defending champions, chasing a winning target of 134 runs.

Pakistan were strruggling at one stage as lost 5 wickets for just 58 on the board.

Ian Butler snared Abdur Rehman to loft an easy catch at deep square leg on the final ball to give New Zealand a one-run win over defending champion Pakistan.

Pakistan have a slim chance of still making it to the semi-final and they will have to pray for an England win against South Africa in the next match here Saturday. Pakistan's only match left is against South Africa Monday.

New Zealand, who lost their first Super Eights match to South Africa, remain in hunt and will have to win their last Super Eights match against England.

Ian Butler who bowled a brilliant last over, was the pick of New Zealand bowlers with 3-19 and adjudged as Man of the Match.
