Poor show pulls India out of World T20

Gros Islet: India is now completely out of World Twenty20 with the defeat against Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in the Super Eight Group F match of ICC T20 World Cup 2010 here on Tuesday.

India needed to win this match by 20 runs according to the permutations and combinations but they closed their ways with the last ball defeat to Sri Lanka.

Earlier, After electing to bat India off to a good start but went down in the end and post a modest total of 163.

Top-scorer Suresh Raina (63 from 47 balls) along with Gambhir (41 from 32 balls) made a pleasant and decent start but in the end Dhoni (23 from 19 balls) alone struggled to get the runs with pretty decent bowling from Sri Lankans.

But having made 163 themselves, they were unable to restrict Sri Lanka sufficiently with a six by Chamara Kapugedara off Vinay Kumar sealing the 2007 champions' fate.

Sangakkara (46 from 33 balls) and AD Mathews (46 from 37 balls) were the contributors of Sri Lankan innings.

AD Mathews was adjudged as Man of the Match for his brilliant display which is very crucial in the Sri Lankan innings.

Sri Lanka, currently in second place in the group thanks to a better run-rate than the West Indies.

Sri Lanka will face England in the World Twenty20 semi-finals on Thursday.
