England Deserved Champions

Bridgetown: England won its first ICC championship yesterday after a magnificent performance throughout the tournament and on the day when it counted the most.

The United Kingdom has always been known to have a rich cricketing history and though cricket was primarily considered in the country something was always missing in England cricket. Unlike English football which won the World Cup in 1966, the popularity was much lower comparatively.

The history of cricket dates back to the 16th century, though international cricket started around mid 18th century where the development took primarily in England with test cricket to begin with.

Australia vs England, T20 WC Final - Scorecard

After England team's win against the mighty Australians taking their first championship winning the T20 World Cup, this will surely throw light to english fans in the United Kingdom and across the globe. Now, with this win the network across English cricket and World cricket is bound to rise for the better of English cricket like English football which has hundreds of inter-linked leagues, consisting of thousands of clubs. And what is more amazing about English football is English Premier League(EPL) is most watched sport in the world, particularly in Asia.

Perhaps we can't compare cricket and football but after all popularity means the same and one thing in the dictionary if we apply it on both the sports. Maybe the standards, the rules maybe different nevertheless what is relevant and distinct can be seen with closed eyes.

What worked well for England this year in the T20 championship is the fearlessness as pointed out by most experts and the urge to win. And ofcourse the KP(Kevin Pietersen) factor and the rest of the team ofourse.

When T20 was accepted in India and across the globe, England were always a dangerous team. The shortest form of cricket was first introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board(ECB) in 2003. The cricketing authorities were finding it hard to get sponsorship. The format was introduced to deliver fast paced exciting cricket. Other nations came out well with Indian Cricket League(ICL) being started in 2007 and Lalit Modi introducing the IPL, in Austalia and other cricketing nations as well. England t20 cricket was over shadowed by the high drama IPL where lot were on stakes and many players shining to the limelight like a crown being taken over.

And another fact was there were limited number of England cricketers in the prized IPL and the normal cricketing brain would always brush off England before the start of World Cup 2010.

Interestingly, what we forgot was the practice, the experience the English cricket team had in this format of the game. Players like Ryan Sidebottom were always on their toes playing T20 league in the domestic arena in England. And sports or anything for that matter, general rule is practice to come out on top and this has paid off well for the England cricket.
