Zimbabwe: Newly appointed Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura is hoping to lead Zimbabwe into a new phase for Zimbabwe cricket with much better performances.
"We are capable of winning games and we have done it in the past,"Chigumbura told The Zimbabwe Standard.
The 24-year-old right-hander was appointed Zimbabwe's new skipper following Prosper Utseya's decision to stand down following his country's first-round elimination at the ICC World T20 recently.
The elimination was the fifth consecutive ICC global tournament Zimbabwe had failed to progress beyond group stage after reaching the super sixes in 1999 World Cup and 2003 World Cup.
Chigumbura is hoping to bring back some respectability in his side starting with the upcoming home tri-series against Sri Lanka and India. Formerly, Utseya had led the side in 67 one-day international matches and won 20 matches.
"I feel honoured to have been appointed to captain my country," he told The Zimbabwe Standard.
"I am looking forward to the challenge and I am hoping to make a difference with my captaincy.
