Karachi: Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is set to make a return to international cricket on June 3 when Pakisran will announce their 15-man squad for the Asia Cup.
Sources have revealed that he has had good support from Pakistan cricketing authorities and is sure to recalled in the side for the Asia Cup starting from June 15 till June 24th in Sri Lanka.
The Rawalpindi express' the nick name given by many commentators and the Pakistan cricket followers for his express pace, last made his international appearance against Australia in Dubai on May 7, 2009. After that he was discarded for a number of important assignments, including the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 championship in England, the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa and the twin tours of New Zealand and Australia.
He has had a career set backs because of injuries every now and then but he made his come back in the domestic circuit earlier this season after reportedly undergoing liposuction to remove excess weight from his body last year, The News reports.
He had a impressive outing in the Pentangular Cup one-day tournament in Karachi for which he was selected in the Pakistan 35 man probables for the Asia Cup and the test series against England.
Sources said that Afridi believes that a fit-again Shoaib can be a potent weapon in Pakistan"s bowling arsenal for One-day Internationals and Twenty20 matches.
“He believes that if Shoaib bowls a fiery spell with the new ball and can get a few breakthroughs then other bowlers like Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir can capitalise on it," said the source.
