Afridi will produce good results; Waqar

Lahore: The Pakistan coach Waqar Younis is confident that new-appointed captain Shahid Afridi will do well as a leader of the Pakistan Test team.

"Shahid Afridi led the team well in the T20 cricket and he was positive and communicated well with the players. I think he will produce similar results in one-dayers and Tests as well," Waqar told the media in Lahore .

Afridi led Pakistan in the T20 World where Pakistan reached the semi-finals until they crashed out of the competition against Australia. He was recently named the captain of the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup and the following Test tour to England even though the all-rounder has not played a single Test match since 2006.

The Pakistan selection committee's decicion of Afridi as a skipper for the Pakistan Test team, came under high scrutiny and many former players were skeptical about him leading the Pakistan Test side.

Waqar said inclusion of youngsters in the shortlist for the Asia Cup and England tour was a good step forward.

"Pakistan cricket is in a rebuilding process and I think the inclusion of fresh blood is a good move. They can learn a lot in England," he said.

On Shoaib Akhtar's inclusion in the team Waqar said he is not sure about his fitness but ultimately it comes down to the decision of the Pakistan fast bowler.
