Harare: Chandimal scored a blistering century to knock India out of the Tri-nations championship in Zimbabwe.

Chasing a target of 269 opener Dilshan looked in good nick but perished soon. Sri Lankans lost their first wicket at a score a 29 and after his fall one wondered the Sri Lankan run-rate might fall but Chandimal had other ideas, he pulled off a match-winning show letting no mercy to the Indian bowling show.

His shot selection, his footwork was right on the money smashing almost all the Indian bowlers all around the park. Finally when victory was on the cards for the Islanders he perished while trying to come down the track off Ashwin, out stumped.

For India to get a bonus point they had to restrict the Islanders to 214 but it looked the other way round, the Sri Lankans were looking for a bonus point instead after Chandimal's thunderous knock

Innings Report:

Earlier, the Indians were asked to bat first and they had managed to muster a score of 268-9 after a late take-off by debutant R. Ashwin and Virat Kholi earlier who made a half century.

Earlier, Yousuf Pathan and Virat Kholi had brought India on track in their hunt to post a big total against Sri Lanka after an early scare losing both their openers.The duo managed to put up an partnership of 84 runs. Pathan was lethal to the Sri Lankan pacers, slashing hard at them dispatching the bad balls and picking up the Indian run-rate. Kholi at the other end is playing well picking up singles and twos, hitting occasional boundaries.

Pathan however lost his wicket off the balling of Suraj Randiv.

Kohli who played an invaluable innings of 68 for the Indians got out trying to up tempo after Sri Lankan bowlers had managed to bring down the run-rate following Pathan's dismissal. Tight bowling was backed by excellent fielding. Sharma followed him soon. India lost 3 wickets for 33 runs and all their experienced batsmen were back in the pavilion.

Chamara Kapugedara especially was brilliant in the field taking a mind-blowing to catch to get rid of Suresh Raina who was trying to mend the innings after Sharma's dismissal and later on taking a running catch to dismiss Ashok Dinda.

In the middle overs, Sharma was timing the ball nicely, until he was clean bowled by an incoming delivery bowled by Suraj Randiv. He scored 32 runs.

Towards the end, after Raina's dismissal debutant R Ashwin played a cameo along with Jadeja on the other side. He put up a partnership of to help India cross the 250 runs mark.

Ashwin was simply picking on bowlers and hitting with good confidence to give Sri Lanka a testing target. Ashwin made a quickfire 38 of 32 balls with one mighty six in his brief innings.

Debutant Ohja didn't trouble the scorers falling early to Nuwan Kulasekara trapped plumb leg before wicket(lbw). Karthik continued on with his bad form, failing to convert his start to a good score falling to Thissara Perera

Captain Tillakaratne Dilshan had won the toss and elected to field in today's crucial encounter between the sides.

Captain Raina had made few changes in his side. R Ashwin, Pankaj Singh and Naman Ojha were making their International debut together. Naman Ohja is opening the innings alongside Dinesh Karthik. Murali Vijay has been dropped for the match.

Chandimal was deseveredly presented with the man of the match award.
