India clinch the T20 opener

Harare: A quickfire 37 from all-rounder Yusuf Pathan and three wickets for paceman Vinay Kumar helped India to a six-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the first of two Twenty20 internationals at Harare Sports Club.

Zimbabwe being asked to bat first slumped to a meager total of 111 as the Indian spinners kept it tight and took regular scalps for the Indian team in the first of two T20 Internationals at Harare.

The Zimbabweans never looked settled, losing wickets at regular intervals as the Indian spinners exploited the conditions well.

Pragyan Ohja was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 2 wickets and giving away just 11 runs. He was well supported by Piyush Chawla who was economical as well picking up a wicket for India.

Earlier, R Vinay Kumar had set the tone for the bowling side getting early breakthrough for India as Suresh Raina won the toss for the visitors and chose to field.
Kumar got the breakthrough in his first over itself. Hamilton Masakazda was dismissed cheaply as he was trying to play it on the on side and edged it straight to fielder on cover position Suresh Raina, handing him a lollipop catch.

Kumar finished off with 3 wickets conceding 24 runs for the Indian side.

But Taylor continued on with his good form and hit 2 sixes of the wicket-take in his second over but Vinay had the final say, he managed to trap him leg before wicket(lbw)

Because of early onslaught by Taylor, the Zimbabwe run-rate looked healthy but they failed to capitilize as the Indian spinners troubled the Zimbabwean middle order.

Chamu Chibhabha was looking dangerous on 40 but he was caught lbw off the bowling of incoming spinner Piyush Chawla.

After his demise, they lost wickets at regular interval and the run-rate dipped temendously while the Indian spinners kept it tight and disciplined.

Earlier during the toss, Indian skipper Suresh Raina had won the toss for India and put the home team to bat first.

Chawla is back in the side for the Indians.

India are on a lookout for a strong performance after their humiliating performance in the Tri-nations tournment, losing both the matches against Zimbabwe.

On the other side the home team will be consolidate on their good run of perfomance and keep that winning streak going against the Indians.
