Dambulla: India will take on Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup finals and will aim to win and end their 15-year-old jinx without the Asia Cup trophy at Dambulla on Thursday.
After their crushing seven-wicket defeat against the hosts on Tuesday, India will seek to avenge the defeat at the Rangiri International Stadium.
The Indian batting were exposed by the Sri Lankan bowlers, both spinners and pacers especially Maharoof who picked up a hat-trick. Dhoni after the defeat said they were outclassed by the Sri Lankans.
A lot of questions have been raised on team selection after the defeat. With off-spinners doing well, Pragyan Ohja was included in the last match and R Ashwin was not played for the match. Dhoni should have logically included Ashwin instead of Ohja.
India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Wednesday said Ravindra Jadeja has the potential to evolve into a genuine all-rounder but the youngster needs to contribute more with the bat. Jadeja has contributed with the ball but has been disappointng with his batting. He was out first ball in the match against the Sri Lankans.
He has been primarily picked in the playing XI as an all-rounder and he really has to come out well if he has to cement his place in the Indian side.
On the other side the Sri Lankan side will be bolstered with the return of fast bowler Lasith Malinga and their veteran spinner Muttiah Muralitharan who were rested in the previous match. They will be looking to make it a hat-rick of Asia Cup wins when they face India on Thursday.
